The Way with Baby Names

Choosing a baby name for your child is almost like choosing his identity. Ever heard about the association of a person’s name with his personality? That’s how our names really work. A name molds a person’s identity like a cookie-cutter. So, better get that best baby name for your son or daughter. Read on for some tips on how to provide that best baby name for your little angel.

1. Stop it already with the dictates of your family’s tradition. Choosing the right baby name does not have to always rely on what your elderly relatives deem to be the best baby name. It is your baby’s name, not theirs. So, better act like it. Once your baby is born he will be stuck with that baby name for life. That means it’s not wise to just settle for any baby name that will suit your grandma’s or auntie’s taste.
2. Take a look of a picture of his future. You don’t want your baby to be always called with a monicker that will forever ridicule him or will allow his playmates to make a big laughingstock out of him, right? Research about the meaning of the baby name you are eyeing to give to your baby. Don’t consider Beelzebub as a prospective baby name just because you heard it from a TV show and you find it cute. Don’t use Rodelfa just because a certain Mexican TV show’s hunky lead actor is called Rodolfo. Just plainly saying yes to your gutfeel, thinking of the people that pops into your head upon hearing somebody spout a certain name, trying to follow a fad by naming your baby a certain celebrity’s (sometimes notorious) or NOT THINKING AT ALL in giving your precious one his or her baby name are huge no-nos!
3. Consider reading the initials of the baby name you are planning to give your baby. Make sure they don’t stand for anything funny, disturbing or something utterly stupid. Christine Sue Irving? What will happen on the next episode? Alvin Stephen Stuart? He’ll surely remember not to get near any hole. Fran Ursula Catherine Klein? Uh-oh! See? Can you imagine the sickening situation you may put your child into when he or she grows up?
4. Go check your family tree once and for all. Some can’t still get away from some traditions regarding baby name decisions, especially when they have a special bond with a certain family member that they want that person’s name to be a part of their baby’s name. If your planning to still follow the tradition of putting a part of your elder relatives’ names on your baby’s name, you have to know whether anybody else in your family use that name too. You don’t want to confuse people when they’re calling a name that’s owned by two. Ask around.
5. Don’t go for the overkill. Being too creative on thinking of a baby name can backfire, I’m telling you. Examples are too unique spellings. It will be hard for the kid to keep on spelling his or her name to people who only know the common spelling of such name.
6. Decide with your partner in coming up with the best baby name for your sweet baby. It wouldn’t be nice to be always blamed when people ask who chose that awful baby name, right? Okay, kidding aside. Sharing on this kind of decision-making is a good way of furthering your bond as a couple, not to mention the possibility of coming up with a better baby name. Remember that the “two heads are better than one” thought also applies to dealing with the troubles of finding the most suitable baby name for your baby.

Sound, appeasing relatives and friends and avoiding embarrassing initials and discovery of disgusting meanings are some of the major concerns that should be considered in your quest for the perfect baby name. You might find them a bit taxing. But in the long run, you’ll see that doing your homework will make your baby thank you when the right time comes. Happy baby naming!

Baby Gift Basket Ideas

Planning to host a baby shower? Or a friend of yours recently gave birth to a healthy bouncing baby? How else could you express that you care for that friend of yours and her baby? A baby gift basket could be the best present that would express your concern.
A baby gift basket is one of those themed gift baskets that are presented containing items that are of value to the recipient. Oftentimes these baby gift baskets contain the following items that will surely give delight to the new parents and to the new addition. You could make use of this information to create or stuff your own baby gift basket that will rid you of those more expensive commercialized kinds.
Nursery room items. These include colorful mobiles to keep the baby busy, lullaby music to soothe the infant, and nursery rhymes CD's. Bigger items like layettes, changing mats for tables and cribs, and other furniture for the baby may be found in de luxe baby gift baskets. Educational toys are also good to make the baby gift basket more beneficial in stimulating the baby's mental development.

Toys R Us. The following toys are also nice to place inside your baby gift basket. Rattles, pacifiers, teethers, feeding bottles, infant cups, bibs and spoons are also useful add-ons in your baby gift basket.
Bath Bath Baby. Bath products for babies are also commonly found in baby gift baskets. These include baby shampoo, baby powder, baby towels, wipes, bubble bath, brush set and tub toys that the baby will surely enjoy in the near future. Baby clothing's could also be considered as one of the best baby gift basket goodies that one could ever give. Just be sure that the clothes you'll give suit the gender of the baby.
If you are to a baby gift basket to someone with a toddler or a young kid, the items should also suit the baby's age. Soft toys, board books, board games, piggy banks will certainly win the jump with delight of a toddler. Clothes for toddlers are also nice to include in your baby gift basket.
If one is intending to give the baby gift basket as a baby shower present, it will be nice if baby cookies, baby cakes, jelly beans and other baby foods will be found there. Announcement and invitation cards may also bring some added surprise to the recipient of the basket. Small picture frames and albums could also add more fun to your baby gift basket. Surely, this sweet gesture will be appreciated.
Gourmet food, wines and other fine food may also be placed inside a baby gift basket for the parent's celebration.

Oftentimes, bows and ruffles adorn the baby gift basket. But one could still be more creative by doing a decoupage of baby pictures or baby items. Other handmade crafts may add personal touch to your basket. They could be in the form of papier mache', origami, sculpture, small painting, woven or knitted items, etc.
If the one giving the baby gift basket intends to give it during a christening celebration or baptism, a small bible, silver cups and any symbolic item that adheres to the theme of the celebration and that the recipient's religion appreciates may also be placed in the basket.

A small gesture like giving out a well-thought of baby basket can surely go a long way. The recipient's smile is enough to mean a sincere "thank you".

Baby Crying

Communication - that's what a baby's crying is for. This sweet thing that suddenly turn into a fit of tears is just craving for your sweeter attention. All cultures in the world nod to this pattern all infants are accustomed to.
A baby cries the most during his or her first three months. Though the amount of crying steadily increase, the crying time period may vary from an hour to most of the day and this could still be considered within normal range. Like, whoah, right? Babies are also known as howling tear factories.

Some thought that a baby cries more during the afternoon accounting it to the anxiousness of the mother or the stressed mood of the father after going home from work. But the most accepted assumption now is that babies have this automatic screening ability they use to shut off all the noise that may stimulate some response from them so they could get enough rest. But in the long run, this filter weakens and totally disappears during the approximate age of six weeks. This, then, make a baby very sensitive to the external factors such as noise, movements, etc. And these generally elicit a reaction from a baby and how best could he or she respond but only through crying.

There are many reasons why a baby succumbs to crying. Deciphering these reasons is the major feat a parent must surmount. Here are some of the things your sweetsome baby is making you understand through crying.
Hunger. Yes, your attention-hungry baby is craving to let you know that his tummy is grumbling. This is the most common reason for a baby to cry, especially, during his early months. The pattern of the hunger howl could be characterized as being persistent, demanding and almost rhythmical. But that rhythm is not at any rate close to becoming musical, of course.

Boredom. What can I say? Aren't these babies just plain spoiled? Crying because of boredom, errr, I'd find that a bit more twisted or weird if it's with an adult that is. But babies are really built like this. Crying is their way of telling you, "Hey get me a life here!" Aside from attention and food, consequently, babies need a lot of stimulation. And when they don't get this, there you get your waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!!! The trick is to pick the baby up and play with him. This move may be frowned upon by some because of its amounting to spoiling the baby. But it is important to know that stimulation is also one of the major necessities of an infant and it won't hurt to provide him with some while in his growing age. This boredom cry is said to be also rhythmical and full of sobs and moans.

Discomfort. Pain is another precursor of the baby's crying. Who won't cry when in pain, right? Babies are not Major Paynes to endure the most excruciating discomfort they could undergo. They are little, vulnerable beings that need to be attended to when injured or when in an inconvenient situation. This cry could be more persistent, louder and more demanding. Shrieking and screaming, those are words that better describe the crying pattern roused by pain.

Another cause may be disturbance; surely, howling will proceed just when they're about to sleep or are already fast asleep and suddenly gets surprised by some noise, or movement. An illness that causes discomfort to a baby may also be the reason for a baby's bursting into fit of tears.

Breastfeeding Questions & Answers

Q. How often should a newborn be nursed?
A. You should nurse a newborn no less than 8 times a day, depending upon how long he sleeps between feedings at night. If he can go four hours between feedings, then you will probably feed him twice between 11pm and 7am. If you feed him right before he goes to bed, then you may only have to get up one time during the night.

Q. How often should an older baby be nursed?
A. Depending upon the age of your child, you should be feeding him every 3-4 hours during the day. As your child gets older, they will nurse less, but they will be eating more during each nursing. If you are going to nurse after your child is over 6 months old, you should not nurse less than 5 times a day. If your milk supply is decreasing, then you may need to add a nursing or two to your day to help increase your milk supply.

Q. How do I go about dropping a feeding as my baby gets older?
A. The most common change that moms need to make is going from a every 3 hour to every 4 hour routine, dropping a feeding in the middle of the night, or dropping a late-night feeding.

Most of the time you will know when your baby is ready to change their eating habits by a change in their sleep patterns. A baby that has been on an every 3 hour routine normally takes 3 naps a day and if they eat every 3,5 to 4 hours then they may drop the last nap of the nap or shorten one of the other naps considerably. Babies are usually ready to do this at around 3 months of age.
Most babies drop the feeding in the middle of night by themselves at around 6-14 weeks old. You will know that they are ready when you awake in a panic in the morning wondering why your baby did not get you for a feeding. The baby will require more food during the day though, and if you are breastfeeding, your breasts may feel full for a few days, but it is well worth it!
The late night feeding is usually the hardest to let go of. Some parents think that if they do not feed the baby right before bed that the baby will awake in the middle of the night. If you don’t think your child can do without the late night feeding, then push it back in 15-minute increments until you are feeding him at the time you would like to. If the last two feedings of the day seem too close together, don’t worry. It will all work itself out and you both will be much happier for it!

A Few Tidbits for Parenting

New parents face many problems and issues that they are expected to understand and deal with immediately. Unfortunately, newborns do not come with an instruction book so here are a few topics that you may need to know about.
* Bathing your baby: Until your baby’s umbilical cord falls off one to two weeks after their birth, only give her sponge baths. A cotton ball or cotton swab dampened with alcohol can help to dry the umbilical stump or follow your pediatrician’s directions. After the stump falls off, you can give him a bath in a sink or shallow tub.
* Caesarian delivery: A caesarian is usually performed to make delivery safer for you or your baby. C-sections can be done for many different reasons including stalled labor, complicated labor, problems with the baby that may make delivery difficult, or other problems. It does not matter if you deliver vaginally or by a caesarian section, you are still a mother with a beautiful new blessing.
* Circumcision: Many doctors agree that there may be some benefit to circumcision, but it may not be absolutely necessary. It may help to lower the risk of urinary tract infections and eliminates just about any chance of penile cancer. Circumcision does not cause long-term emotional problems for your child.
* Crib death (SIDS): Many studies have been done regarding SIDS. Although the cause of SIDS has not been definitely defined, there are some correlations that have been made between SIDS and the following things:
o Male babies are more likely to die from SIDS than femaleso Prematurity makes it more likely o Minority children are affected by it more often than non-minoritieso More children of young, single mothers die from ito Children who live in a home with one or more smokers are more likely to be affected
Some people say that sleeping with your baby can reduce the risk of SIDS, but the American Academy of Pediatrics disagree with this statement and go on to say that there is a greater risk of SIDS in babies who co-sleep.
Back sleeping is what most pediatricians recommend for babies to decrease the SIDS risk. The reason for this is widely debated between health experts. If you have concerns, talk to your pediatrician.

The Calm Kids Program Increases Your Childs Concentration

Dear Parent

Would you like to be able to enjoy your child for once, & not be constantly frustrated and annoyed by his behavior? Imagine having at your fingertips an arsenal of "secret weapons" that you can use to calm your child down anytime you want. Imagine your child actually obeying you the very first time you ask, without having to resort to spanking, nagging and bribing. What if your child's ADD/ADHD was a strength - the launchpad or starting point - of his current & future success, instead of the crippling failure it has become. What if you could safely "re-program" your child's brain to become more focused, calmer and less fuzzy and distractible.
Imagine being able to calm your child down at the touch of a button? If you read any of the claims above with some skepticism, I wouldn't blame you.

In order for you to fully understand why your child behaves the way he/she does, you need to know a bit about how the brain works. Your brain is made up of billions of cells called neurons which use electricity to communicate with each other. This electrical activity in the brain is what is referred to as brainwaves. There are different brainwave patterns depending on what the person is doing, thinking and/or feeling at that moment. Without going into a lenghty explanation of the different brainwave patterns and their purposes, people with ADD/ADHD lack sufficient Beta Brainwave Activity. The right and left hemispheres also fail to work in synchrony and glucose isn't metabolized effectively. Raising the level of Beta Brainwaves can improve emotional stability, energy levels, attentiveness, concentration and in some cases even increase your IQ.

The Calm Kids ADD / ADHD Program is made up of 4 Components:
The first component are the Calm Kids mp3's that are based on cutting edge technology. Audio technology that is safe, easy and effective ....has no side effects and the results begin to show from the very first session. The Calm Kids Program uses a special audio technology that plays sounds of a specific frequency that safely raises these brainwave activity levels and over time normalizes the brain.Repeated listening also helps to synchronize both the right and left hemispheres to allow for more 'whole brain' thinking - the kind of thinking pattern used by Einstein and other geniuses. And it stimulates the growth of more neural pathways in the brain. That means that your child will be able to think faster, retain information for longer and his overall academic performance will be greatly enhanced.

Birth Order Rivalry

This is a huge area of debate. We also have to remember also that different cultures and families have a range of ways of growing up. Often people think that the oldest will be more responsible, the middle child will be more placid and the youngest can be spoilt. When this is true, and it is definitely not always true I think it's a more the result of how parents raise the kids that something innate in the kids themselves.

Q. So are the eldest more responsible? A. Depends on the family, age differences and personality of the child. Often the oldest for instance spends more time in adult company due to having no siblings so their language can develop a bit earlier as they are use to adult conversations. Also they are often told by the parents to look after your brother or sister thereby appearing more responsible. By their early teens they may be baby sitting their younger siblings as well. All this does create more responsibility.

Q. So what about the more children a parent has the more spoilt they become?
A. This is not always true. What does happen though is that parents tend to be over cautious with their first born but by number three or more they are far more relaxed. This in part can mean that they younger children are less instructed by parents and as well as looking to their parents they look to the other siblings.

Q. So what are some cultural differences that affect the way siblings are brought up? A. These range from the different expectations based on the gender of the child to different expectations based on their ages. Some examples include; The oldest child being given to a grandparent to raise, boys being encouraged to get out and Girls expected to work at home, the oldest child being punished for the wrongdoings of the younger children.

Q. So when there is so called rivalry does the birth order make a difference?
A. Yes in part. Sometimes it's nothing more than the older sibling being physically stronger. They can also be more aware and possibly a bit more independent. Remember also that busy parents can struggle to manage a full house with the range of expectations they face from their kids. A fairly common response is to tell the oldest to sort themselves out and focus on the youngest who seem to have the biggest needs.

Q. So how do parents help teens sort out the rivalry stuff?
A. First remember conflict if handled well is positive not negative. It should never be violent or nasty. If handled well it's the best place to learn how to relate well and handle conflict. Secondly it's important that parents realise that the children notice how they are treated differently. These differences need to be realised and if necessary changed.

HOw to baby proof your home

How to baby proof your home to make it safer for your infant

There is so much to consider and it is very easy to overlook something that might be fairly obvious to some but escape others. Keeping your child safe at all times is one of your greatest concerns and responsibilities

Every year, children under the age of five die from unintentional injury than any other cause. Accidents are the leading cause of permanent or temporary disability in those over the age of one year. One in four children under the age of 15 will require medical attention due to accidental injury. Most of these accidents occur in and around the home. Start today and create a safer home for your child.

Car seats. Make sure cars seats are certified an installed properly. In a study completed by National Safe Kids Council, over 87 percent of car seats were installed improperly. Your child should always be in the back seat and rear-facing for an infant under one year and less than 20 pounds.

Baby's cribs. Slats should be no more than 2 3/8" apart and bumpers should be removed by the age of five months or when your baby begins pulling herself up, whichever comes first. Do not keep stuffed animals or loose bedding in the crib. Rather, use a wearable blanket.

Bathtubs. Never leave a child unattended. Children have drowned in less than 2 inches of water.

When your baby is in a carrier, never place it on a high surface or counter. It can easily be wiggled and topple over.
Put outlet covers in electrical outlets. The small, individual outlet covers come out easily and are a choking hazard.

Furniture. Babies pull themselves up on furniture prior to walking. Be sure to have all heavy furniture, including the changing tables, secured to the wall so they cannot fall down on your child. Be mindful of where you place all furniture, as your toddler likes to climb. Beds, cribs, chairs, chests and desks should be placed away windows.

Medicine and household cleaners. Toddlers have been known to be able to open a child resistant cap in 10 minutes. All medicines and toxic substances, hairsprays, gels, mouthwash, powder and other toiletries should be kept in cabinets that have proper locks installed or placed in higher cabinets out of reach

Never hold your baby in your arms when cooking over a hot stove. Hot oils and boiling water can splash on them. Be sure to use the back burners when cooking and turn handles away from the front of the stove to avoid them being grabbed.

Loose buttons, snaps, etc. Check baby's clothing regularly for these. Never use strings to attach the pacifier or dummy to baby's crib or clothes and check that it is not getting old.

Safety gates. If you have a steps, balcony’s or stairs in your house, place a safety gate to prevent any falls.

Other tips to watch out for. Window guards on windows, keep plastic bags away, tie up hanging tassels and cord from curtains, put up hanging electrical cords, place covers over sharp corners.
